WATER INFILTRATION 

Engineering students are taught to design structures to resist the forces of gravity, wind and earthquakes; however, little attention is paid to water, which causes more damage to buildings than the wind or earthquakes.  We understand that keeping water out of a structure is crucial in order for the facility to have a long and useful life.  This requires the use of proper details when the building envelope is constructed to prevent water infiltration. It also requires regular maintenance of the building envelope to ensure water infiltration does not become an issue during the life of the structure.

We have performed a wide variety of water investigations dealing with such issues as improperly installed flashing, roofing, windows and glass curtain walls, condensation issues due to improperly installed insulation and improperly water-proofed foundations, and the lack of maintenance to caulk and sealant on building envelopes.
